Montclair Public Schools, in partnership with IMANI, will once again offer the Transition to 9th Grade Program at Montclair High School. This program is designed to support students as they complete Summer Assignments and make the transition to high school. Students will:
● Read and analyze scenes from The Odyssey
● Research and explore Of Mice and Men
● Learn and sharpen Algebra skills
● Review and prep for next math level
In addition to academic support, students will:
● Become familiar with the Montclair High School campus through guided tours
● Meet key high school staff members, including counselors, administrators, and support personnel
● Learn about the wide array of extracurricular activities available at MHS
● Begin building relationships that foster a strong start to their high school journey
Participation in this program can make a meaningful difference in helping students begin high school with greater confidence and the essential tools needed for academic success. We strongly encourage rising 9th graders to enroll in this program as an important step toward a successful high school experience.
Program Details
- Dates: June 29 – July 30, 2026 (Mondays through Thursdays)
- Total Days: 20 instructional days From 8:30 am – 12:00 pm
The fee is $50.00 per student, which is waived for those who qualify for free/reduced lunch. Scholarships are available.

Getting a jump start on high school
IMANI offers a summer academic enrichment programs that helps ease the transition from middle to high school. Students who take part in this program enter high school better prepared to handle more demanding academic requirements.
The Transition to 9th Grade program takes place in the 9th grade building at Montclair High School. During the 4-week session, students complete summer assignments, read and interpret selections from the 9th grade World Literature curriculum, and sharpen their Algebra I skills. Students also tour the high school, meet key staff, and learn about extracurricular activities.
